Moving out from a double apartment while your roommate stays?
Even if your roommate is staying in the apartment, you are still responsible for completing a full move-out cleaning. This applies to your private room as well as all common areas such as the kitchen and bathroom.
We recommend that you coordinate with your roommate to ensure access to clean kitchen cabinets, the bathroom, refrigerator, and other shared areas well in advance of moving out. If needed, you must move or temporarily clear away any items in order to clean properly.
A thorough move-out cleaning is required. This includes, but is not limited to:
-
Cleaning kitchen cabinets (inside and outside)
-
Defrosting and cleaning the refrigerator and freezer
-
Cleaning bathroom tiles
-
Cleaning the oven, including racks and trays
Some of these tasks can be time-consuming, so it’s a good idea to start early.
A complete cleaning checklist can be found here: Cleaning Checklist
During inspection, it will be taken into account that your roommate is still using the apartment. However, it must be clearly visible that a proper move-out cleaning has been carried out. Inadequate cleaning may result in additional charges.
